St. George's House - Registered Care Home
This comfortable, modern building in Westcliff on Sea, with provision for 25 Residents,
is a Registered Care Home capable of providing 24-hour personal care for Residents with this level of need.
The provision of 24-hour
personal care necessitates a high ratio of staff to Residents and, as a result, charges are higher than those in Sheltered Houses.
St George's House was opened in 1988 and since then has been subject to the usual attention to maintenance and re-decoration.
A
couple of years ago a full refurbishment of the kitchen facilities at the House was undertaken. This was largely due to the generosity
of the late Diana Rose, a local artist, who left money to the Society in her Will.
Earlier this year the Barling and Wakering Abbeyfield
Society had to close and the Executive Committee decided to donate the money from the sale of the House to various local voluntary/charitable
organisations.
The Abbeyfield Southend Society was included and received a substantial donation from them.
It is always sad when
an Abbeyfield House, which has provided such wonderful service to the community, has to close, but the donation has enabled a
major project to be undertaken to refurbish St George's House internal decor - see photos left and right.
